There are a variety of styles and types of pontoon boats that are out there for sale, I will start with the more popular type, sometimes called the party boats. These types can range from anywhere, from 10 to 30 feet in length, and they can serve multiple purposes. These are the types of used pontoon boats that I cover in many of the posts on the blog, simply because they are the most popular out of the family. I have said that they can be used as party boats, fishing boats, family day trips, swimming, water sports, you name it, they can be used for it. The only disadvantage is that you cannot take them out into the ocean, the way that the pontoon boat is constructed makes it so it cannot handle big waves. The front of the pontoon boat, or the bow, is very close to the water, if you were to go out into the ocean with 3 foot waves or more, water would be crashing over the bow easily and quickly flooding your boat, which can be very dangerous.
Next there are mini pontoon boats, these are generally about 15 feet or less. They are not meant to hold a lot of people on them, and there are many designs, some will come with a couple of fishing chairs, others will come with railing while some of them wont. They are really good for fishing, and if you are a fisherman that needs a cheap boat, and don’t want to go with the inflatable type, this would be the next best thing to the inflatable boats.
Inflatable pontoon boats are specifically designed for fishing, and they can usually fit one or two people on them. They are held afloat by 2 inflatable pontoons, this makes it very easy to transport around. With these small maneuverable boats you can easily get access to hard to reach spots that not many other fishing boats would be able to get to du to size limitations. You can find these around from a couple hundred dollars, or even up to thousands depending on the condition or whether its new or used.
Believe it or not many of the house boats that are out there are also pontoon boats, just a little bit bigger than the normal sized ones that you would normally see. They can be up to 60 feet long, I have not heard of any longer than that but I could be wrong. House boats are just like a house floating on water, they are enclosed with a roof and walls surround the boat, and could have a few rooms on it too. Another type of long and big pontoon boat would be the tour craft boats, which are made for taking people on tours such as site seeing. These usually consists of many rows of seating and some of them could fit hundreds of people on them, they are just like tour buses but they are actually tour boats.
